The Washstand

Remember when I told you about my little washstand that my mama gave me?  I had mentioned that I was going to have my hubby work on her a bit since she was rather "sick."  As you can see from her before picture.  She was not very pretty.  Well.....it was a little more than he felt he could do to make her sturdy.  So, I called my friendly fantastic ever-so-talented carpenter fellow and he came over and took her back to his workshop and repaired her for me.  She is solid as can be now!

Here she is all painted and prettied up.  I used the original hardware that was on her.  Don't you just love that little beadboard door?
And here she is with the mirror that went with her in my mothers childhood home.  My mother and I have been talking about this little stand since I have been working on her.  She told me it used to be in her mothers kitchen when she was a child.  They did not have indoor plumbing so the wash basin sat on the top of this in the kitchen by the back door.  My mother would wash her little hands standing at this.  The hooks on the mirror held their towels.  She even remembers getting her mouth washed out with soap at this little washstand for being sassy!  I can not begin to put a price on this little piece of furniture.  It means so much to me!

Oh Shann.
What a darling wash stand and so full of family history. :o) You did a beautiful job painting it as well as the mirror. It is such a lovely piece of furniture and one so close to your heart.
I had to squint and zoom as much as I could to capture (sorry-I was being nosey) your darling picture. That is one of my favorite verses ever! It reminds me of the tenderness the Lord has towards us. :o)
My laundry room flooded this morning - good times! :o) So coming to the tail end of all I can do before my husband gets in. Do you ever just shake your head and laugh?! That is my kind of day today. :o)
Have a lovely weekend.
Sincerely, Trish
