All my eggs in one basket

I have been spending too much time on others blogs looking at all the pretties that everyone else is making and I made myself do something about that! I found a tutorial for some fabric Easter eggs. I thought they were so cute. Got mine finished up just now. Although, mine look more like Easter balls or Easter hackysack thing-a-ma-jiggers. Sigh..... I thought if I put some Easter grass in my little antique colander they would look more like eggs. Right?

I fought the corn and the corn won

You know, this looks like your average can of corn.....but it was sooo not!!

It all began innocently. I have one of those can openers that takes the top off the can and leaves a very smooth edge or lip where you opened it. Well, it must of not caught then entire lid on the way around the can and one little bit was "stuck." So, I gave the can a little yank and this is what happened......

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Corn everywhere!! The mess was actually quite larger than what you see here. Trust me on this. It was even in my hair my husband and kids told me. Nice. And wouldn't you know....I had just swept and mopped my floor. Of course.

Time for Yours?

Can you guess what I had done today? Let me give you a little hint.

Today was the day I had my mammogram. The clinic where I go opened recently a new cancer center. It also has a breast cancer center as well. I could not believe how beautiful it was when I walked in. Spiral staircase (and I mean a big one) and beautiful wood everywhere you looked. Decorated to a T. There was even a little boutique playing french music in there with fun little things inside.

When they called my name, I went inside this small little room. The technician asked me a couple questions and had me take my deodorant off with these little wipes, similar to baby wipes actually. She left the room and told me to remove my upper garments and put the "cape" on and the next tech would be in to get me shortly. I actually took a little picture of me in my lovely lavender super-woman cape. Can you see it?

While you sat there waiting, there was a flat computer screen on the wall. There was a "movie" playing of real pictures of fish swimming in the ocean. Kind of like your own fish tank. Classical music was playing in the background. How soothing!!! Here is a picture of my aquarium.

Finally the tech came in and we were ready to get my pictures. I could not take a picture during the actual mammogram. That would of been very difficult!! Plus, the technician would of thought I was off my rocker probably!

Actually the entire experience was wonderful. The actual procedure did not hurt one bit. It was not even uncomfortable. My girlfriend thought it was funny that I was putting these pictures on my blog. I have no idea who reads my words here, but if you have been putting off having a mammogram because you were fearful.....please don't be. It was a piece of cake! I feel good knowing I am taking care of my temple God gave me and also it shows my two daughters the importance of that. So, please go for yours if it is time. Remember...piece of cake! :)

Out on a line

My mom sent this poem to me this morning. Thought I would share it with you since I actually had some things outside today on the line. This poem makes me think some housewife in the 50's probably wrote it. Probably a nosy housewife from my hometown. We certainly have our share of ladies who would find "enjoyment" from seeing what people have hanging on their clotheslines. Times don't really change, do they? ;)


A POEM

A clothesline was a news forecast to neighbors passing by. There were no secrets you could keep when clothes were hung to dry.

It also was a friendly link for neighbors always knew if company had stopped on by to spend a night or two. For then you'd see the "fancy sheets" and towels upon the line; You'd see the "company table cloths" with intricate designs.

The line announced a baby's birth from folks who lived inside -As brand new infant clothes were hung, so carefully with pride!

The ages of the children could so readily be known by watching how the sizes changed, you'd know how much they'd grown!

It also told when illness struck, as extra sheets were hung; Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too, haphazardly were strung.

It also said, "Gone on vacation now" when lines hung limp and bare.It told, "We're back!" when full lines sagged with not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon if wash was dingy and gray,As neighbors carefully raised their brows, and looked the other way.

But clotheslines now are of the past, for dryers make work much less. Now what goes on inside a home is any body's guess!I really miss that way of life.

G.N.O.

Girls Night Out....that's what we had last night at my house. I have told you before about "The Birthday Club" that some friends of mine and I started. Just a group of ladies who I thought needed some TLC on their special days and they did not get it from other sources.....so the birthday club was born. Of the members that we have in the club, no one has a birthday from December (and we have two) to May. That is a looooong time not to get together. I was missing all the ladies being together so I called a "meeting of the club." HA! I made a big pot of cheese tortellini soup, bought cheese bread from the bakery my sister made a layered salad. It was lovely. And lastly, I made a berry parfait for dessert with fresh strawberries and blueberries. Yummo! What was the most delicious part of the meal was the conversation and the women gathered around the table. All of us come from different walks of life. All have struggles with things. All of us want to be the best Christian woman we can be. All of us are there for each other.

This night was needed by all those who attended. Our friend Kim came in and said she was ready for our G.N.O. We had no idea what she was referring to. She said that Miley Cyrus has a song out and it is about Girls Night Out. Leave it to a spunky 16 year old girl on the Disney channel to come up with that. :) And, that is just what we had.

Breeze a Blowing

Can you see my curtains a blowing? Ahhhhh......if only you could hear the birds talking outside as well.....Welcome Spring. We are so glad you came.

Hodge Podge Post

This is going to be one wacky post. Lots to tell you about my last two days. First, I went to the little Amish community by my little town and bought some fabric for a blanket my youngest daughter has been wanting me to make her. Cats is what she wanted. Cats is what she is getting. I guess I am kind of famous with my friends and my friends kids for the blankets I make. They are nothing elaborate or special....just made with love I guess for whom ever the recipient is. One side I use cotton. The other side, I use soft flannel. In the middle I use soft cotton batting. Then, I tie quilt it all together. Then, I finish it off with a little label saying it is made with love from me. Since the babies are all getting about as tall as me now...they want new ones. Bigger ones. So, this fabric is for my little one who wants a bigger one. She would like to have it done by this weekend.....or so I am told.



This next pictures are what my sissy and I bought at Hobby Lobby, Michael's and the kitchen store at the mall.

First....I would like to say that I don't think a 41 (almost 42) year old girl (ahem) is to old for stuffed animals. Do you? I saw this little fellow and he just had to come home with me. I had the perfect place for him. A couple years back, I got this little metal doll high chair. Occasionally I like to put stuffed things in it. I knew he would look so cute in the little chair. I think he looks like a little chocolate rabbit. Hope I don't gain weight looking at him. You know that can happen!




And, here we have a new Gooseberry Patch cookbook. I need a new cookbook like I need a hole in my head. But, I do cook a lot for my family and others and there is just something so sweet about these cookbooks. Don't you think? And, it looks like summer and boy am I ready for that! And, with our economy doing so poorly, I am going to try and cook more at home and eat out less. That is my plan anyway.

These little things were at Target. I thought I could make something with them for the kids. I love their little shapes. Ambrosia salad for Easter would be fun with these or toppers for cupcakes would be so cute too! Or, you could just open the bag and pop them in your mouth. Oh...the possibilities are endless! :)

And lastly, here is the birthday boy's picture. He is six years old today. I just love this creature. He makes me laugh everyday. He makes me smile everyday. He makes me happy. Happy Birthday to my handsome tuna eating kitty cat!

Told you this post was wacky and random. Hope you had time to enjoy the beautiful weather today if you live in the Midwest. We sure did. As I sit here typing this, I can hear the birds singing again. WHOO HOO!!!!! Maybe Spring really is coming. Thanks Lord for another season. Wonder what it will be bringing for my family and myself? Hope good things!

Blueberry Scones

I had a little container of blueberries I wanted to use up before they went bad. I made these little lovelies with them. I can not remember where I got the recipe for these. But, they are good! I used orange zest with this batch. My sissy and I are going to "play" tomorrow. She took the day off from her busy hectic banking job and I always have Friday's off. We have no agenda

and not a lot of money to spend....but we will have the company of each other and that is something we rarely get to have. Alone without kids, that is. :)

I think I might take a couple of these little babies with me tomorrow along with a hot cup of java with extra sugar and cream for her....cause that is how she takes hers. Hope she is not reading this!!

Here is the recipe if you would like to make some for yourself. They are not hard to make and they sure are yummy with a cup of coffee.

Blueberry Scones
1. 2 cups flour
2. 1/4 cup sugar
3. 1 Tablespoon baking powder
4. 1/4 teaspoon salt
5. 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
6. 1 Tablespoon grated orange or lemon rind
7. 1/4 cup butter
8. 3/4 cup buttermilk
9. 1 (farm fresh) egg
10. 1 teaspoon vanilla
11. 1 - 2 cups blueberries (I like to use fresh when I can)

Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Cut the butter into the dry ingredients with a pastry blender, until fine.

Mix the wet ingredients in another bowl then add to the dry ingredients, stirring with a fork until all the mixture has been moistened. Fold in the blueberries.

Drop by large spoonfuls onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. (Be gentle with this kind of dough)
Bake at 400 F for 18 minutes.


Make a glaze by mixing in a small bowl . . .3/4 cup icing sugar 1 tsp of the peel from the citrus you chose earlier. 3 Tbsp of lemon or orange juice that you earlier chose. Mix and drizzle over scones while still warm.
