Love from God

We were eating breakfast this morning before school. The girls and I just chatting about their day. Valentines day parties and candy and friends and such. My oldest daughter was getting up off the bar stool when I looked down at her sweatshirt sleeve and lookie at what I saw! The tiniest little heart shadow from the window clings in the window. God shone His little light down this morning in my kitchen and showed three girls His love on my daughters sleeve. How amazing is that?

7th Grade Valentines

My 5th grade daughter was busy putting together her Valentines for the class party Friday. I asked the 7th grade daughter if her class was doing anything for Valentines day. I already figured the answer was no...but I wanted to ask just in case. The answer was no...but she said she would like to do something for her friends. So, we came up with this idea. I baked cookies this evening while she was at church baby-sitting. M & M cookies with Valentine colors. Can you see the red, pink and white chocolate yummies thru the bag?

She decided to give these to the people who sit at her lunch table tomorrow at school. There are ten of them that sit together. We stamped the little tags to put on them. Can you see what they say? My friend, my friend, my friend.....with the little pink heart. We think they turned out pretty cute. Hope her "table mates" think so to. I am also hoping that the mean kids don't make fun. I am betting they will be drooling with envy actually. I told her if they make fun, they are just jealous that none of their friends thought enough of them to do something so special. Boy is it hard to be in 7th grade. Did not like it when I was there and here I am again in it with my sweet girl. Sigh......

My Uncle the Cowboy

My uncle passed away this morning. He has been battling cancer for a few years. Today, the cancer took his body but oh, how I am praying that The Lord has his soul. He was the closest cowboy I have ever known. He ALWAYS had on cowboy boots and western shirts and cowboy hats. He rode horses and lived on a farm. He was a very strong man. His youngest daughter and I were pretty close. I would spend the weekends with them. My cousin and I would play barbies for hours and hours. Oh the fun we had! They were country people and I was the biggest city kid! They all taught me a thing or two about living in the country. They introduced me to snapping turtles, and very long snakes and haylofts. I got bit by a horse at their house. I fell into the goose/duck pond at their house. I stepped on cow manure that I thought was hard...but oh no....it was still very soft! In flip flops no less!! EWWWWWWW!! I touched my first (and last) electric fence at their house. I swung in a hammock at their house. I loved their house.
My aunt and uncle loved each other very much. They both served each other in a mighty way. They were playful together. I saw my aunt flick my uncle with a kitchen towel and he chase her around the kitchen table....laughing all the way. My aunt lost her best friend today. If you are reading this and believe in prayer, please pray for her. They also have four children that will be coming to their moms side in the coming days. Cancer stinks! Let me repeat again....CANCER STINKS!!!
For those who belong to Christ we know that there is no cancer in heaven. There will be a day where there is no more pain....there will be a day.

Slowly But Surely

I have been working on my little quilted table topper for a couple days. This is all the farther I have gotten on it. Since I am learning on my own, from a tutorial I found on this this blog....it is taking me awhile. I am going step by step....baby steps really. I get one step done...then take a break. Step two.....take a break.....
Next, I get to make the "sandwich" with the top, bottom and middle. I will save that for tomorrow. I have had enough for today. :)
Just wanted to show you that I have been working on my fabric purchases from last week that I showed you. By the way, the other projects are already finished! Hurray!!

Lovin From the Oven

Tonight I wanted to make something yummy and homemade for my family. I thought Chicken Pot Pies sounded good. I bought these little ramekin dishes awhile back but have not used them yet....so tonight was the night! This first picture is the dishes filled with the meat mixture before the topping went on. You should of been here to smell my house. Oh my land!!!!

This is the little babies ready to go into the oven to be baked.

And lastly, here is mine ready for me to dive into her. They were hot little boogers so you have to be careful not to get burnt. My youngest daughter loved them. My 13 year old daughter said and I quote...."I am not going to eat that." My new motto is and I quote....."help yourself to a peanut butter sandwich my darling!" So, she did. While the rest of us (my sissy came over to have one) gobbled them up. We had cottage cheese and applesauce with them. That is tradition with my family. We did that when we were little girls. My daddy probably started that one. And, we had a little loaf of Amish oatmeal bread I bought today at our little Amish store. We put their apple butter on the bread. YUMMO!!

Here is the recipe if you are interested. I tweaked it a little from the original. I kind of do that sometimes. :)

Chicken Pot Pie

4 cooked and diced up chicken breasts

1 1/2 cups chicken broth

1 can cream of celery soup

1 can of cream of chicken soup

1 - 16 oz package of frozen veggies (peas, corn, green beans and carrots)

1 onion diced

1 stick melted butter

3 potatoes boiled and diced up

Saute the chopped onion and butter in a small saute pan until onion is soft.

Add all these ingredients together in a large bowl and mix together well.

Topping:

1 1/4 cups Bisquick

1 stick butter melted

1 cup milk

Mix together and pour over chicken mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for appx one hour or until golden brown. Since I put this in little ramekin dishes, it only took about 35 minutes for them to get nice and brown.

Enjoy!!

Just for me

This is another wonderful gift I received for Christmas from my sissy. I love this sweet gals blog. Hers was one of the very first I stumbled upon and began reading. I was anxious to get my little paws on her new book but I was a good girl, and asked for it for Christmas instead of ordering it for myself. My sister took it a step further and asked her to sign a little book plate for it. Can you see it?

She called me sweet! :) How wonderful! I have looked at this book and looked at it and looked at it. It is beginning to show signs of wear! It is marked with projects I want to try but have not yet. I am looking forward to starting on one of her creative ideas. She is very good at giving instruction and boy, do I need instruction when it comes to sewing! Geesh!!

Anyway, if you have not already gotten a copy for yourself, you should check it out. It really is filled with lots of eye candy. Pull up your most comfy chair and a cup of your favorite liquid and look thru this book. You won't regret it! :)

Dem Bones

We had a get together at my parents house this past weekend for the Super Bowl. My daddy cooked ribs. Let's just say I am not a huge fan of eating something off a bone. It seems a little...how shall I put this.....carnivorous for me. I don't like chicken on the bone either. I am more of a boneless/skinless kind of gal.

Anyhoo.....back to the ribs. My youngest daughter tried them for the first time. She loved them! As you can tell by this picture.

It appears that she really got into eating the ribs. She has BBQ sauce all over her face. It was even on her forehead!!

She has ALWAYS been a messy eater. Almost everyone in my family will agree with me on this. She is a lefty. I have no idea if this is why or not. I am sure that not all left handed people are as messy as she is. Her daddy is a lefty and he is quite neat, actually. Can you see the condition of her fork in this picture? There is sauce ALL OVER the handle. What did I tell you!!! :) And, if you think the fork is a mess....check out her hands!

My dad had warm washrags next to each place setting for tidying up our faces and hands after eating those messy things. I guess he has eaten them a few times in his life to know that we would need them.

The men stayed in the family room and watched the game. The two little ones played with the train set. The oldest girl was at a Jr. High Superbowl party with her youth group from church and us gals...my sissy and mama and myself sat at the computer and put more music on our blogs, cleaned up the kitchen and cracked up at the half time show with "The Boss." No football watching for us. After all...someone had to hose the kitchen table down after gnawing on all dem bones!!
